Have you seen this gecko around?!
"My quarantine days were a little more interesting since I was coming back home to Kerala after a long gap of one year after training my eyes to follow wild animals in the picturesque landscapes of Uttarakhand. I thought quarantine would disappoint me, but I was completely wrong."
This natural history writing was written by me back in December 2020 based on my observations during the COVID-19 lockdown days. The article was submitted to Madras Naturalists' Society's (Madras Naturalists ) M. Krishnan Memorial Nature Writing Awards, and I was shortlisted for the Award. Now the article is published in Malabar Natural History Society's Malabar Trogon. Adila's (@ithalnadi) illustrations are the highlight of this piece!
See below an example!
"One evening when going to the nearby paddy field to see some froglets, I noticed one more gecko on a coconut palm. I called my sister to get my camera since we were seeing a gecko for the first time on a coconut palm."
I thank my grandfather and grandmother for keeping track of the geckos and my sister for accompanying me in the exploration. I thank Sandeep Das for kindly reviewing the article. During online classes of the lockdown time, I found myself running behind the Coastal Day Geckos. This was an amazing experience. We wish more such natural history writings will come from your backyards.
